Rajini is truly The Boss. Sivaji is truly the best. But Shankar?
Was one among the privileged few hundreds who had the luck of watching the most hyped up, most awaited, most sensational Tamil movie ever to be released before it was actually released! Which movie am I talking about, what else other than the great "Sivaji The Boss". Went to the special night show, yesterday (14th June) in Rohini theatre complex even before the movie was released everywhere else on 15th morning. The movie started with the same gala as seen in all Rajini movies, the fans throwing flowers, dancing on the screen platform etc. It turned out to be one exceptional movie with the combination of Shankar, Rehman and Rajini working amazingly creating the best movie of their careers for all three of them. Was thrilled to see the super star appearing with a youthful, bubbly look and body language throughout the movie. Rajini really does defy his age. The movie is 100x better and 1000x commercially made than any of Rajini’s prior movies, even Chandramukhi. This movie is one which is going to run for a long long time in the theatres and gonna beat Chandramukhi’s record. AVM, Shankar and of course Rajini are going to be rich men, and Rajini is going to be taken to a status above super star probably closer or even next to God or maybe even CM by his fans as an out come of this movie. The movie also carries a social reformation theme like most of Shankar’s movie of the past which is really a good feature of the film.
But as a Rajini fan and as a person who also watches a lot of English movies as well, I saw few glitches or rather silly loop holes or rather simply called ‘goof ups’ in the movie. 0% Rajini’s fault 100% Shankar’s fault though. The fact that a hero can beat up 10 rowdies in a fight and come out victorious is an accepted fact in the Indian cine industry. If a normal hero can beat up 10 rowdies , superstar of course can beat up 100 rowdies, no denials, superstar substantiates that in his dialogue “only pigs come as crowds, lions come alone” when he starts beating 100 odd rowdies in a fight scene. So I am not including the fight scenes in the goof up list.
1. Rajini’s electrocution: Well, why does it have to be that Rajini gets himself electrocuted to become unconscious? Why can’t he just pass out when suman beats him up badly in jail? Well, probably the director did not want to show that the superstar can actually pass out when a villain beats him up, but hey, the manner in which Rajini pulls up the electric cable on himself and gets electrocuted and eventually pass out was very silly.
2. Prado turns into a Scorpio: This is unforgivable and total stupidity, this really is one unforgivable goof up. Well, let me explain. Rajini uses a land cruiser Prado in the second half of the movie. He goes to a drive-in theatre with his wife where there is a car chase scene (the scene looks like its out of a destruction derby where cars gets banged into each other till they break down). The scene starts off with Rajini in his Prado. Then there is a long shot where the car gets pounded by the rowdies’ cars and suddenly that shot onwards till the end of the fight Rajini is in a Scorpio. The Scorpio gets severely damaged and totally wrecked but finally Rajini manages to escape.
What the hell! Any one who knows cars would have noticed the fact that the scene began with Rajini in a Prado and ended in a Scorpio. Throughout the movie, we see dance sequences and stuff set up in lavishly spent sets (backdrops) that would have cost several crores to build. The movie had no budget problems and money was the last thing that Shankar had to be bothered about. Why couldn’t a 40 odd lakh Rupees prado be wrecked for real for the movie? Why did it have to be switched for an old Scorpio? Shankar! It was stupid
3. Suman taking mottai boss to the terrace: The pre-climax scene starts with the mottai boss going to see suman in his office. The boss does not ask for any money or for that fact does not ask anything, but suman takes him to the terrace to show him the money hidden under the roof tiles.
4. Alarm switch on the terrace walls: this is another stupid goof up. Why on earth does an alarm switch (which calls the rowdies for the fight) ever be placed on a terrace wall? Suman uses the alarm switch to alert the rowdies that he is in trouble with the mottai boss on the terrace which triggers the climax fight.
5. Thavani stops a speeding train: A final silly thing is the heroine removing her thavani and signaling a speeding electric train to stop and manages tosuccessfuly do so. Well, why was this secene done, for glamour? To expose her cleavage? Well don’t know but definitely could have done better in some other different way
Well there were few other things, but those where things universally accepted in the Tamil cine industries as normal, regular things which the fans do not bother much about. These above points I had to illustrate since I was a bit mad at Shakhar for doing these silly goof ups which could have been easily covered up, and these silly things happening in THALAIVAR’s movie is unforgivable. BUT, Shankar has given us such a good entertaining movie with a good morale too, kudos to him!!!!, no man is perfect
Go watch the movie, its will be a once in a life time experience. Also as a spoiler, you would go to the movie to see Sivaji, but you will also get to see MGR

Hi,
Your point number 1: (Rajini’s electrocution). The idea was to make the heartbeat stop, completely. To die, so to speak. You can’t just try to stop your heartbeat or stop breathing with your will power alone. A doctor comes up and checks rajni’s pulse before confirming that he is dead, remember? however, reviving the dead (using electric shock) after such a long time is highly questionable.

U point about PRADO is very true. I thought at first i was imaging things…. Prado in one frame than scorpio in another!!! Well not many first time viewers notices the switch.
You can chk out a recent post of mine on superstar…. ur observation would be interesting.
Why Tamilians like Superstar?
There are many reasons to why an outsider is welcomed in so many homes in Tamil Nadu. Some say he has an original style, good actor etc. All these hold true and there is no dispute to it.
